Barclays Capital Launches Asia Pacific Convertibles Benchmark Index

London; Barclays Capital, publisher of leading broad market bond benchmarks, today announced the launch of a new Asia Pacific Convertibles Index. This new index offers investors a total return benchmark for multi-currency Asia Pacific (APAC) convertible bond portfolios and expands the geographic footprint of the Barclays Capital convertibles index family.
“The Barclays Capital Asia Pacific Convertibles Index appeals to dedicated convertibles investors as well as crossover debt and equity investors seeking useful measures for convertible asset class returns in the APAC region,” said Luke Olsen, Head of Convertibles Research, EMEA and Asia Pacific.

Designed as a benchmark for active or passive portfolios, this rules-based index is broad in its coverage of the Asia Pacific convertibles universe and consists of securities that are actively quoted by multiple market makers. Flagship indices are available for the full APAC region as well as for Japan only and APAC ex-Japan only. An extensive suite of sub-indices are also available, offering structural breakdowns of market performance by convertibles profile, sector classification, currency, country and credit quality.
“This new index complements existing Barclays Capital benchmarks for the EMEA and US markets and creates a global platform for fully measuring the convertibles asset class,” said Waqas Samad, Head of Index, Portfolio and Risk Solutions for Barclays Capital. “Investors seeking market clarity on a global asset class depend on benchmark indices both as performance targets and informational measures of market returns and risk characteristics.”
